Professor Yu Ting has been engaged in the research and performance control of two-dimensional materials, and the application and development of new and efficient devices in optoelectronics, optical communications and information storage. In particular, he has made many leading works in the fields of optical, optoelectronic, optomagnetic properties of two-dimensional materials that can be used for the next generation of information communication and storage. He co-authored books such as "Second-Order Photocurrent Effect in Two-Dimensional Systems", "Near-Field Optical Imaging", "Nanometallic Oxides", and "Basic Properties, Preparation, Characterization and Application of Two-Dimensional Carbon Materials". He has hosted and co-hosted international conferences for many times and has been invited to give more than 60 conferences and invited reports. He has won the Nanyang Research Innovation Award (2008), the Singapore National Young Scientist Award (2009), the National Research Foundation Researcher Award (US$3 million in research funding) (2010), the Outstanding Young Scientist (the only young scholar representative from Singapore to attend the 2010 World Economic Forum in Davos), the Singapore Institute of Physics Nanotechnology Award (2011), etc. He has applied for many international patents on near-field microscopy and nanocarbon composite materials in lithium-ion batteries. He has published more than 380 academic papers in world-class journals, with more than 38,000 citations and an H-index of 106. He has been selected as a highly cited scientist many times (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023) and listed in the World's Top 2% Scientists Lifetime Scientific Impact List by Elsevier.

Research direction: low-dimensional material spectroscopy and optoelectronics, exploring the quantum optoelectronic properties and applications of matter. For the first time, the strong coupling between antiferromagnetic magnons (AFM Magnon) and optical phonons (Optical Phonon) and the transfer of spin angular momentum between the two were discovered in two-dimensional antiferromagnetic materials ; quantum confinement control of room temperature valley polarization and fluorescence emission wavelength was achieved in two-dimensional semiconductors . Related research results were reprinted and reported by Nature and Nature Review Chemistry .
